Art Portfolio

My artistic practice spans over five decades, characterised by a fluid exploration of themes that unfold in my daily life.

I thrive on the spontaneity of discovering what emerges in the present moment. Initially trained at art school in the 1970s, my Bachelor's degree focused on installation, painting, actions, and sculpture, rooted in connections to feminism, contemplative traditions, and environmental concerns.

In the early 1980s, the demands of earning a living and childcare led me to work in textile design and education. Despite this shift, my passion for creative expression persisted. I pursued a Master's degree in Design Theory and Practice, teaching at Central St Martins and maintaining a personal practice as an artist, teacher, and facilitator.

Throughout my career, I've remained engaged in courses, exhibitions, and projects aligned with my early interests in ecology, feminism, and peace-making. Now, with more time available, I'm delving deeper into areas of personal significance, seeking to realize my full creative potential and reconnect with my foundational artistic interests.

I have trained as Tamalpa Life art practitioner working with the wisdom of the body. For more information check out my Wellbeing page.

I'm particularly drawn to the embodied experiences of places, environments, and objects, exploring how they intersect with rituals and actions. Themes of human experience and contemporary issues also inspire my work, as I engage in ongoing dialogues with the world around me.

In recent years, I've revisited my textile roots, developing a passion for knitting fair isle patterns and garments. Drawing inspiration from my everyday surroundings, including my garden and the landscape, I use found and hand-dyed yarns to create vibrant patterns and colours. This wearable art reflects my deep connection to nature and the materials within it.

Additionally, I've returned to stitched journeys through the practice of SLOW stitch, add links merging meditation with textile making . This holistic approach allows me to explore new dimensions of creativity while staying true to my artistic roots and passions.
